LUNA TURISTA

The new Eileen Rose & The Holy Wreck album - 'Luna Turista' - will be released in Europe on 5 October through Floating World Records! There is a FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD of one of the tracks, 'Sad Ride Home', available on the band's ReverbNation page for the next 2 weeks. The album is available to pre-order now from amazon.co.uk.
Eileen has recorded 'Luna Turista' with her band The Holy Wreck - Nate '86' Stalfa on drums, and The Legendary Rich Gilbert playing guitar, pedal steel, bass, banjo, organ and mandolin. Joshua Hedley, who plays with Justin Townes Earle, also sings and plays fiddle on the album. They recorded half the album in Nashville, where they all live, and half in Berlin during their recent Summer tour.
The album has been mixed by Rob Clark, who works with Neil Young. He mixed 'Prairie Wind', produced Crosby, Stills & Nash's 'Déjà vu' and is currently mixing the second release of Young's Archive songs. Eileen says "I was pretty excited to get him because the record does have a bit of a 'Harvest/After The Goldrush' feel to it. To have someone who is also currently immersed in mixing Neil Young songs recorded in the same era, some of them recorded in the same sessions as Harvest and Goldrush...well, Rob was just perfect for us."
'Luna Turista' features 9 songs written by Eileen plus a cover of 'Luckenbach Texas', which was written by Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons and made famous by Waylon Jennings. When it came to recording, Eileen decided that she wanted to go for a stripped down, organic feel that highlighted the talent and skill of her band. She says, "It is very much a 'performance' record, though not a 'live' sounding record. We performed the songs together, in one take, very few overdubs and no compiling of various takes. We've all done so much intense touring together over the last year, we have that played-in sound that made this possible. And as musicians, Rich and Nate are so accomplished, we didn't need all the 'studio help' that is available now. We just played the songs. So, though the subject matter of songs is still very personal, this is more of a 'band' record for me than a singer/songwriter album."
The title 'Luna Turista' (tourist moon) came to Eileen during a show in Italy:

"We were opening for Joe Ely on the top of a mountain in this beautiful disused quarry. The promoter said 'tonight you play on the moon'. And that's exactly what it felt like. We played outdoors on this huge stage right next to a 30 story cliff that had been carved out of the mountain. The sky was full of stars and there were about 1,500 people there. It was pretty magical. The cover of the album is a shot of me live on stage that night. We play some very interesting places now, as a habit... we go off the beaten path a lot. I really have turned into a bit of a gypsy, by accident. It feels like I am always touring, always moving now. Thus part of the reason for the title."

Ontsnappingskunst
